The Howard T. Odum Florida Springs Institute is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, working to protect Florida springs through sound science and education. Our in-house scientific springs monitoring projects provide field internships every year to college students that are seeking degrees in environmental science, biology, and aquatic ecology. In addition to internships, we provide hands-on volunteer opportunities at 10 different spring systems across the state through our citizen science program, SpringsWatch. Through volunteering with SpringsWatch, our participants learn how to measure water quality, water quantity, and ecological monitoring in springs and spring runs. The Florida Springs Institute also provides public education through the North Florida Springs Environmental Center, our educational resource center that is open to the public. Located in historic downtown High Springs, the “springs heartland” of Florida, NFSEC is home to springs exhibits and educational resources for the general public.
